Our recommended running routes in Edinburgh

Your safety is a priority to us – here are a couple of safe routes in and around Edinburgh we recommend for your run.

Cramond Beach – 5k (double up for 10k)

Cramond beach is the perfect easy access route for your run. It’s flat and simple which makes it perfect for your 5k – especially if you are running with children.


Blackford Hill – 5k (double up for 10k)

Blackford Hill is a liberating route through nature with scenic views. This route may be muddy so be prepared but this 5k route will be worth it.


Water of Leith – 10k

Water of Leith is an iconic route in Edinburgh. Beginning in Leith and running along to Dean Village and back will equate to 10k, carrying on the route to Balerno is roughly 20k. This route is along beautiful water surrounded by wildlife and beauty. The paths may be narrow so just be careful at passing points.


Arthur’s Seat/Holyrood Park/University of Edinburgh – 10.5k (double up for half marathon or four times for a marathon)

In the centre of Edinburgh there is an iconic route that can’t be ignored. This route loops around the University of Edinburgh, Arthur’s Seat and past Holyrood Park. It is a mix between woodland and paths - it is a total of 10k and can be ran twice for a Half Marathon or four times for a Full Marathon.
