Fresh Start

Who are Fresh Start?

Fresh Start has been supporting people as they move on from homelessness into unfurnished tenancies across the city of Edinburgh for almost 25 years. We focus not only on homelessness prevention, but the period following temporary accommodation or rough sleeping where tenancy is gained in order to tackle the cycle of repeat homelessness.

What do they offer?

We have various services; the 'Starter Packs' that provide essential household goods to people moving on from homelessness, the 'Fresh Rooms' service who paint and decorate tenancies to make them welcoming and homely, as well as community cooking, gardening, support work and learning initiatives that operate from our premises in Northwest Edinburgh, in an area of multiple deprivation. Additionally, this location hosts our food Pantry which offers an alternative to foodbank use that prioritises choice. Services are vital to help establish community and support in peoples lives.

A message from Fresh Start...

We are thrilled to be working with the Meadows Marathon this year, we hope the event will bring some much-needed awareness about homelessness in Edinburgh, as well as funds essential to run services. We are on a mission to better connect with the student population in Edinburgh, as the future of the city with the passion for getting involved in social action, we hope that the Meadows Marathon’s enthusiasm can help to spread the word! A huge thanks goes out to everyone involved in the Meadows Marathon, from the amazing runners, to the hardworking committee organisers and to the student population at large. We can’t wait until race day!
